Instructional Student Assistant, Fall 2012
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Under supervision, Instructional Student Assistants perform teaching, grading or tutoring duties for the majority of work hours in a given appointment in a given academic department or equivalent administrative unit over the course of an academic term.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and Abilities: Incumbents must possess the ability to learn and perform assigned work; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; and accept responsibility. Completion of specific coursework may be required in order to teach, grade or tutor a course. Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student. On-Campus Work-Study Instructional Student Assistants must meet the eligibility requirements of the Federal Work-Study Program, as determined by the campus' financial aid office.
EXCEPTIONS: Exceptions to minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the hiring department/authority.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES OR HIRING UNIT CONTACT PERSON: Interested students should submit a filled out application form (available from Prof. Matthews) and a recent set of unofficial transcripts to Professor Emily Schuckman Matthews at ematthews@mail.sdsu.edu. Advanced standing in the Bachelor's Degree program of the Department of European Studies preferred, completion of EUROP 101 Introduction to European Studies with a grade of B+ or higher preferred, and overall GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred. Duties include maintaining student records (attendance, grades, etc.), evaluating homework assignments, tests and quizzes, and assisting professor with other course management tasks.
PERCENTAGE OR HOURS OF APPOINTMENT: Generally 5 hours a week. (A student employee who works a combination of jobs may not work more than 20 hours total per week in all jobs.)
